The Judiciary Technical Advisor on ICT, Ms Julian Rweju at the 4th Annual Law Conference
The Judiciary Technical Advisor on ICT, Ms Julian Rweju, on Thursday August 26, 2021 made a presentation on ICT integration in the Judiciary operations under the Electronic Court Case Management Information System (ECCMIS) in a session at the 4th Annual Law Conference.
The Principal Judge, Hon. Justice Dr Flavian Zeija and Chief Registrar, HW Sarah Langa Siu virtually attended the Conference which was held at Mestil Hotel in Kampala.
Ms Rweju explained to the participants the planned technology advancements being made by the Judiciary. She took the participants through the features of ECCMIS, it's benefits, challenges and proposed solutions.
"The System will see us go completely electronic in as far is filing, payments, processes, among others. As an institution, we shall further interact with you more closely, be transparent, and deliver timely justice," she said.
ECCMIS is a fully-featured system which automates and tracks all aspects of Court processes of a case life cycle from initial filing through disposition and appeal. This system once rolled out fully will contribute to reduction of corrupt practices by eliminating human interaction in handling case files.
The advocates welcomed the initiative and pledged full support of the same. However, they called upon the Judiciary to strengthen the System's security features for safety and privacy purposes.
ECCMIS is expected to be rolled out in all Kampala-based courts and Jinja High Court circuit by October, 2021.
